The median pay award across the economy has jumped to 6.0% in the three months to June, up from 5.6% in May, according to our latest analysis. Higher-end awards worth 5% or more account for three-quarters of increases in our sample, which contains 184 pay outcomes effective between 1 April and 30 June 2023 and together cover nearly 1.5 million workers. The largest cluster – a quarter – of increases were worth between 5.0% and 5.99%. Elsewhere, more than a fifth (21%) of pay awards were worth 9% or more and the proportion of awards at this level, which are most common in private services, has led to a significant uplift in the upper quartile from 7.1% to 8.0%.
