Government moves to establish range of new employment rights

The Government’s new Employment Rights Bill is currently making its way through parliament and at time of writing had reached the House of Commons Committee Stage, which may see some modifications. The Bill is wide-ranging and involves a mixture of collective and individual rights. A number of measures – those on industrial relations, collective redundancy, zero hours contracts and statutory sick pay – have seen consultations, and the results of these are likely to feed into deliberations as the Bill makes progress. A number of its provisions relate directly to pay and conditions, or the setting of pay and conditions, and in other cases it provides a new context to decisions and negotiation in these areas.
